The Iran Contra Scandal was devised in two parts, which was revealed in 1986.

Iran was holding US hostages in Lebanon, which warranted the presidency to desire their safe

return at whatsoever cost and the US regime wanted the Sandinista government to resign power in

Central America. How these two cerebrate to each other was a term of circumstance.



Weapons were traded to Iran in strain to return American hostages, scarce the attempt failed. This

is not the study issue of concern. The concern comes when the weapons were illegally sold

dependly to the Iranians without reparations for the hostages. USMC opening North and his adviser

Admiral John Poindexter were thought by some to be the sole decision makers and others believe

the president himself made the decision. Trading weapons against the constitution as well as

keeping the ordeal a secret was illegal careless(predicate) of the culprit. The issue affected the arrogance

in the Reagan Administration in the end.


The Central America side of the scandal came from an issue contact the Contra Rebels in

Nicaragua who shared the desire for the Sandinista government to be squeeze out of power.





Congress was convinced to provide weapons to the rebels in 1981, but later on repeated thwarted

efforts Congress banned any further efforts to aid the rebels. Col north, however, provided $12

million dollars of weapons to the Contras bought with moneys accepted from the Iranian issue.

Reagan, again, was caught in the shadows of the affair and it is not known of his direct

involvement or decisive action concerning the Contra support after the Congressional ban. Again

his administration suffered a loss of confidence from the American people.



The Iran Contra scandal is not the first attempt to acquit enemies from undesired decisions on the

part of the US government nor willing it be the last. It may be viewed as a via media of American
